Pros

You get to spend a year in New York.

Cons

1) The management staff are incompetent and will gaslight you anytime you have a grievance. They do not have your best interest at heart. 2) Accommodation: There were multiple shootings on our street, several break ins, and someone broke in and overdosed in the common area's bathroom. They are still placing people here, a clear lack of duty of care. 3) Very low salary. I now see it is unpaid despite them making a full salary from the host organisation. They will say they are not for profit (as if this makes them a charity) but their revenue is available online and speaks for itself. 4) Career prospects: No networking opportunities were provided. They actively tried to block several people being taken on full time afterwards due to their contract with the host organisation have a clause that means hiring has to be approved by them. London Programme: I have seen that the program is now unpaid, it is illegal to have unpaid internships in the UK hence they are calling it shadowing now. It would be cheaper for you to apply for a visa and get a proper paid internship/job. If you are eligible for Mountbatten you are likely eligible for the High Potential Individual Visa.

Pros

I was on the MountBatten program for a year and it was the best experience of my life. The MountBatten candidates are very close Nash group who are very social. My full-time role that MountBatten placed me with in Manhattan was flexible and had a great team. If you want to live in New York City, this is the perfect chance and ideal for those wanting to do it on a budget like myself.

Cons

I see a lot of negative comments about the MountBatten program but people have to realise that in order to move to The concrete jungle there are sacrifices to be made e.g like sharing a room with a (well-paired!) roommate for six months or earning a little less money than you usually would. If you are truly on this program for the right reasons, you’ll see how valuable it actually really is. In comparison to the other J1 graduates who come to New York with no No accommodation for which they pay $15”” a month, they have to find a job within 90 days in their field, which none of them these days because the market is so competitive. needless to add that if you’re going with another Visa sponsorship company, it costs around thousand dollars to do acquire a Visa. The MB sorts all this for you, so I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Pros

Unbeatable experience in New York. They sort visa and all the hard stuff so its a lot easier for people to move over.

Cons

Not enough money every month, they haven't updated the stipend in line with inflation levels. Communal living can be annoying if you have to share a room.
