Pros
- Kind colleagues, sometimes to a fault - Company and its leaders are well connected in the civic tech space, you'll learn a lot and be inspired by the potential opportunities in the space - Good work-life balance if you're on the right project
Cons
There's so much talk about the mission and values like diversity throughout the interview process and when you first join the company, but once you actually start work, you'll quickly realize that it's all talk and no action. Most of the executive team is new to their position (for example, never been C-level or VP before) and it shows. In the past year, significant company decisions have been made and then reversed, with no explanation. Leadership is not steering the company in a sustainable direction and is not transparent in decision-making which has eroded trust throughout the organization. There is limited career development available due to the nature of government contracting and inexperienced managers who don't know how to help with your career or have no influence to change your compensation/level A lot of people have expressed burnout vocally, but no action is ever taken. Some projects are widely known as toxic and nobody wants to work on them because the company leadership is not addressing the issues and just sweeping them under the rug. All the good talent is leaving or is on their way out. There is no transparency into why people are leaving even though they do exit interviews and nothing has changed.
