Excellent larger company to work for - Senior Software Engineer New York Times Employee Review

Pros

The Times definitely treats their employees pretty well. Good health benefits, compensation, etc. My only complaint is that there is a good bit of bureaucracy to deal with which gets tiresome. From a software engineering perspective, teams are small and projects are interesting. Choice of tools and methodologies is very wide and developers have a wide berth.

Cons

Too much bureaucracy. Many "directors" with their hands in the pot. Could be more agile and current in todays market, but making tremendous strides.

Pros

Challenging and rewarding work. You'll work in an environment that publishes the news everyday, if you are excited about helping people learn more about the world, you'll love it here. Good benefits, hybrid work, and really smart coworkers.

Cons

Does not pay like big tech but as an IC you'll be part of union with job protections
