Paytech doesn't care that happy consultants make happy clients. Seemingly they would rather bully the employees that ask questions about policies and procedures than to admit to their greed. I used to believe the high turn over was on account of the travel being a hassle at time but I see a number of employees leave because they cannot take the micromanaging and various policies that definitely do not show ANY appreciation for the revenue earners that are making management very rich. Consultants are only paid pennies on the dollar of what's being billed to clients even though they are the ones doing all the work.
Additnionally, consultants are paid a flat salary even though they are not legally exempt employees. I'm sure a lawsuit is in their not too distant future.
Paytech even went so far as to change vesting of 401(k) from 2yrs to 6yrs just to avoid paying the match. (Rarely, are employees staying past 2yrs at Paytech.)
They manage professionals with over 10-20-25yrs experience as if they're just out of college and working their 1st job. For example, as an employee that has been with Paytech over a year...you will be told how to scribe and email to the client, you will be told how to plan a vacation around your schedule as if this isn't something you've done as a professional your whole career. You will potentially get charged for company expenses such as mailing supplies.
Even though you are traveling, oftentimes weekly, you are required to work a standard 45hrs a week....I guess to be fair to the client. Too bad no one is being fair to the consultant. I'd like to see management travel for one month and see how well they do. 40hrs used to include travel hours but the greed has pushed things to a new level.
Group engagements really should not be something Paytech is involved in at all as they clearly have no experience. They don't know how to manage individuals let alone a group of experts on an assignment. Of the group engagements I've personally been involved in...95% of the staff left...during or immediately after the group assignment. Why? Simply, Paytech doesn't know how to manage groups or individual consultants. The group lead rarely has leadership skills, especially with managing subject matter experts, they also like to hire employees that has no payroll experience.
There is no work life balance at all. Billable hours must go to the management because it doesn't go to the consultants...who should be paid hourly and are NOT exempt from OT. You will be forced to work weekends, evenings, & holidays...only thing is you will only get a fraction of your pay when you do. (One guess who reaps the full financial benefits of all those long hours you put in away from your family.
Bottom line is this...if your manager loves you and is supportive - you'll have a great professional life at Paytech...until you're on a group engagement, or you want to take a vacation, or you have a client that thinks employees should work 60 hrs or more a week.
Also, the PM side of the house is probably where you should apply. They're allowed to have more flexibility to work remotely. They also have the respect of being a professional...& they don't need payroll experience. There is rarely a promotion from consultant.
