Pros

It is a job. If you need employment- at least you will be employed. Show up late, call off or nocall/noshow whenever you want- They don't have an attendance policy- Therefore, LOTS of hours by yourself if you want them. Feel free to steal- They won't prosecute and for the company for the most part doesn't have a loss prevention. Also, they are drug and alcohol friendly- You will be drug tested when you first start but after you're hired, show up tore up from the night before or get messed up at lunch. You can just leave early if you want to or work the rest of the day. Nobody cares.

Cons

EVERYTHING. They low-ball your compensation- Even if you show that you are worth more salary or hourly, you'll never get it. Getting a bonus is the same way- they are structured so that it is always just out of reach. The starting pay is so low that only kids can afford to work there- kids who are consistently late or don't show up. Because of them not showing up you think that overtime will be great, except you will NEVER get it. Overtime goes against the store and affects the managers bonus. Unless you are full-time, then expect to work about 50+ hours a week and get a written warning for working so many hours. Individual store leadership is nonexistent- They push everything on midlevel managers while the store managers take vacation every month. When your store manager is on site, they will not do any tasks or assist in the daily operations. Full-time, plan on performing duties for management, yours and who didn't show up that day. Area/Regional/VP leadership is too busy being worried about getting their bonuses and when they are taking vacation to deal with store level issues and always refer you back to your store manager, who is on vacation. You will never be promoted- not beyond midlevel. Store managers and Service managers are usually outside hires and/or friends of Area/Regional managers.

Pros

The competitive pay. Thats about it

Cons

The whole guarantee system. Management, equipment. To anyone who decides to go to pepboys as a flat rate tech, they changed the guarantee system to where if you're not efficient, you only get what you flagged. So if management is bad, the location is bad and its slow, it gets rough. Prior it was a guaranteed pay based on you hitting 40 hours. Their excuse was people "abusing" which is really backwards thinking. If you're starting out, I recommend Firestone. The pay might be slightly worse but you'll have a guarantee of at least 30 hours. Also management at my location seems content only doing tires and flat repairs that hit budget. All while I have to come to them to see if my ticket got sold or if the fleet company approved of the work.
