Pros

No one looks at your expense reports

Cons

I've never worked in a more toxic work environment and I've worked at MANY other agencies. No support whatsoever, never pushing back on clients when they have impossible/ridiculous demands, creatives think they walk on water. Threats to fire you will start early with no plan to support your development or growth. You either wait to get fired or leave when you know better. Management was just a clique of female bullies out for blood. I've never left a company with such a bad taste in my mouth for my "colleagues"...and they weren't even a talented group of people. It would be one thing to deliver great work and be nasty, but it was a complete mess, always. Do yourself a favor and do not interview here. You'll end up regretting it.

Pivot Design Response

Thank you for notifying us of your perceived experience at Pivot. What you have detailed is absolutely not the culture and environment we work so hard to cultivate, so it is truly disheartening to hear you felt this way. Like any company, we have experienced growing pains, but throughout that we have made it our mission to lead with empathy and always be open to feedback and change. We stand behind our agency’s strong culture and certainly do have high expectations for everyone. Threatening to fire people simply does not happen. We are committed to creating new paths and opportunities for all of our employees, which is why some team members have been a part of our family for 10, 15, and 20 years. We especially encourage all employees and managers to have open lines of communication and feedback, so that we can work through any negative feelings or issues in the moment and not when it is too late. We wish you would have voiced your concerns earlier so that we could have addressed them in the moment. What we are most sorry to hear from you is your disparaging feelings towards your former colleagues and their work as we encourage our teams to show mutual respect for each other no matter the department or role. It sounds like Pivot may not have been the right fit for you personally—and that’s ok. We sincerely hope that you have found a fit somewhere else that makes you feel fulfilled. —Liz

Pros

I have worked at several agencies and Pivot truly sets the bar for talented colleagues. Across all departments, the caliber of the employees is top notch. And not only are they smart, they are kind, caring and collaborative. The Executive Leadership team is also truly dedicated to retaining said talent so there is a focus on competitive benefits, salary and fostering a sense of community and fun. Beyond that, the ELT not only listens, but acts. They solicit feedback and proactively implement that feedback to consistently improve the agency. We recently implemented new agency work flow protocols in direct response to employee feedback. In addition to a talented internal team, Pivot is focused on wellness oriented clients who HELP the world be a better place. If you work at Pivot, you can rest assured that the work you contribute to is important and meaningful. And let’s be honest, agency life can be hard and it is certainly not for everyone. Deadlines and pressure are unavoidable in this line of work. However, the overall work/life balance is VERY fair and if you need help, help will be provided. There is also a very fair mentality in regards to life requirements outside of work. If you need to drop your kid at school or go to the dentist, as long as your work is handled and you have alerted your team, it is not a problem whatsoever.

Cons

Agency life can be unpredictable. If you are not someone who thrives in a fast paced environment and can easily change gears, this is not the right fit.

Pros

The beauty of Pivot is that there is no ceiling and no guard rails for how far you can go and grow. If you are motivated and smart, you will succeed. If you have ideas, you can make them happen. Liz (our President) is not stuck in her ways and is always open to finding better and new ways to do things. You have a voice at Pivot and you are not just a number or a cog in a wheel. She schedules 1:1s with employees at all levels of the agency to hear what they have to say. I've been at 3 other agencies and have never experienced that type of transparency and access to senior management. In terms of employee benefits, Pivot has a very generous vacation policy. Week shut down between xmas and NYE, the typical holidays plus 4 days for Memorial Day, President's day, and summer hours. And Liz genuinely wants people to have a work/life balance. That's not to say there are not the occasional late nights or stressful weeks, but the office is generally empty by 6pm. What other agency can really say that? In my few short years at Pivot, I've truly embraced all the opportunities and challenges that have come my way. Working with smart and fun people sets Pivot apart. We all come together for a common goal to do great work and make our clients happy.

Cons

Expectations are high and if you cannot deliver, it can be stressful. You must learn how to prioritize, be efficient, and be a true team player. If you want to come to work to just earn a pay check and not be productive or push yourself, Pivot is not for you.
