If the paper expects people with 10 years of experience including editing experience to work for $36,000, I can't imagine how existing staff members are making ends meet. Obviously strict paywall isn't helping to pay for salaries. Paper should reconsider cutting stringers, reconfiguring beats and coverage areas to bump salary and for better specialty beat focus instead of being so worried about what's happening in a small town. Lack of diversity on staff. Not enough women in leadership positions and not racially diverse save for two or three staffers.
