Pros

Central location to NYC, Philly, Harrisburg. Nice area to live in with great shopping and entertainment. Friendly and knowledgable coworkers. Respected in community. Well staffed considering circulation size but might be well staffed because of low salaries. Real commitment to local news with the amount of content in the paper by staff writers.

Cons

Broadsheet design of paper not being taken advantage of on section fronts. You can fit more than two stories and a photo on the section front if you can design. Part of the issue with the smaller size is that while you get plenty of local news, too often are stories held for space. You may see a story in the paper two days later or longer after it appeared online. Can't seem to make transition to online easy with workflow for print. Uses two different CMS despite having one of the CMS being able to do both print and Web. Business section too closely tied to advertising. Business stories lack context-more fluff than anything. If the paper expects people with 10 years of experience including editing experience to work for $36,000, I can't imagine how existing staff members are making ends meet. Obviously strict paywall isn't helping to pay for salaries. Paper should reconsider cutting stringers, reconfiguring beats and coverage areas to bump salary and for better specialty beat focus instead of being so worried about what's happening in a small town. Lack of diversity on staff. Not enough women in leadership positions and not racially diverse save for two or three staffers.

Pros

Hard working, under paid employees

Cons

Since 2008 when new executive management took over, the exponential decline of business, sales and employee appreciation/ value and pay continues to spiral out of control. Due to lack of confidence and respect in executive management, employee morale continues to decline.
