Pros
Very focused on the applied science of climate and space research. For a software engineer, this means you get to work in multi-disciplinary teams. A typical project team consists of scientists, electronics engineers, firmware engineers, mechanical engineers, etc. Lots of vacation days, and very good pension.
Cons
Salaries are 5 to 10 percent below market rate, but with a guaranteed bonus at the end of the year. The loyal work force also means that you often work with the same people, new hires are rather rare. Promotions are even more rare, due to the limited spots already taken by people who stay with the company 15-30 years.
