Pros

Time worked starts as you leave your home; Typically have about 4-6 Lowe's stores in your territory; Not extremely micro-managed but that also depends on the regional manager; Fellow reps are happy to share advice; Not tied to one location everyday but, depending on territory, long drive times (1-2 hrs each way) should be expected; No company car, but you are reimbursed mileage; Great job if you like talking to people; Some stores are great, others you dread to visit.

Cons

Majority of cons are related to Lowe's; I am employed by SW, but Lowe's determines what I actually do; Customers do not see reps as any different from Lowe's employees, therefore, you are treated with no respect; Lowe's management teams ask you to "cover" for employees who have called out, or taking lunch, which is poor scheduling on their part, yet I pay the price; Spending at least 1.5 hours per store to replenish color cards that kids/adults leave in a mess (even when you are standing there!) Cons of SW: Expected to work multiple weekends per month and the major holiday weekends; Must create a calendar to follow exact to the minute, if anything changes, notify the RSM immediately or you'll be suspected of not working; Reps sales numbers are in the hands of part time Lowe's employees, meaning I could sell 100gal while working store A, and only 5gal at store B because I was not there; Budget increases too high, typically >15% ; Bonus structure was inadequate for the work you do.

Pros

A positive work environment. The best co-workers I have had so far in my career worked with me at Sherwin. I also worked under an amazing management team. There is a lot of room for career growth. I worked for Sherwin for about 3.5 years. I started as a contracted lab technician, then I was hired full time as an R&D Associate Chemist. I quickly worked my way up to R&D Chemist within a year of being hired full time. The department I worked in was very fast paced, however, I know there are many other groups that move at a much slower pace with longer timelines. This would make it much easier to manage the workload.

Cons

Working with marketing was challenging at times. We would regularly receive big requests a day before they needed something. This would pose a challenge when you had other priorities to attend to. The pay was average. I do think it could have been slightly higher for all of the job responsibilities given to the chemists in my group specifically. The workload was overwhelming at times.
