Pros
Employees are close to each other and hang out outside of work as well Good benefits (Although medical insurance cost is very high) - 401K w/ matching, profit sharing Very profitable - no layoffs even when economy went bad Good product with a good reputation Good sales training - good customer service
Cons
Very difficult to make more money or advance- They will switch you from salary, back to hourly - then cut your hours, then back to salary - very clever way of keeping pay down Outsourced human resources (Tandem) is awful - Technically you work for Tandem, not Solberg Mfg - and they are there to keep employee costs down for Solberg - as well as functioning as a front for employees on the shop floor with questionable work authorization Way too many managers - very vertical- so many layers of middle management it can be hard to figure out what to do when conflict between them arises Frequent yelling, conflict, swearing, and overall harsh treatment of employees - old school - get the job done - don't question - or you're out the door Heavy favoritism Loaded with sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, of the owners hich means any and all opportunities for advancement that arise go to them. Very strict on time off - very strict on sick days - very strict on leaving work early for any reason (i.e doctors appointment) Bought 2 million dollar solar array the same year they told employees the company didn't make enough money for bonuses
