Pros

Good benefits, nice people to work with, management is hit and miss (I had great managers my entire time with this company but other coworkers had some horrible managers). Clean work environment, nice break rooms and cafeterias, secure work place.

Cons

Worked for state farm just over 5 years. They love to make you start at the bottom (in a call center) even if you have more experience or credentials in another area). Got a promotion every year with top ratings from my managers and still topped out at $37,000 after working here 5+ years. They are very stingy with raises and if you get a great review you only get a few thousand ($2k-$3k) in your overall raise for the next year which doesn't equate to a lot in your pay check. Yes, you get a cash bonus in addition but it gets taxed at a 40% rate (it's not very much). Top executives raise their pay and lower everyone else's pay as much as possible. Company is going thru a transition where it's all about numbers and productivity and they don't care about the employees anymore. The new sentiment is "you're replaceable". You work unconventional schedules (your off days may not be consecutive or you may have to work at least one day on the weekend or the entire weekend). The company used to be more family friendly until recently. Company makes it very difficult to get a promotion, incumbency periods went from 12 months to at least 18+ months. To get a promotion you better be a great "brown noser" or have a lot of friends or family at the top to help you rise in the company. If you're not a "yes man" then this company is not a good fit for you....anyone against the grain won't go very far. A lot of people don't have company loyalty anymore and are just there to collect a pay check. Pay is very low...pay is way below the national average compared to similar companies. Overtime is promised to employees and then cut off while more and more independent adjusters are hired to do the work instead. There are many people who have left this company to work elsewhere, I have yet to see anyone come back. The only thing I've heard from the people who have left is "best decision I ever made".

Pros

(At the time) Fair pay and predictable bonus structure They were pretty good at covering travel expenses and paying them back quickly Diverse workforce & diversity initiatives Fun and funny coworkers Opportunities for growth Again, this was all four years ago and has likely changed

Cons

(At the time and now, according to other comments) Arrogant to a fault Total lack of innovation & willingness to innovate Odd attachment to the company's past (which prevents progress) High number of veterans (20+ years) who are determined to get that retirement money, and therefore, are resistant to change and technology Heavy reliance on command and control management style Poor decision-making that leads to losses of all kinds
