Pros
• Very professional outfit. Highly regarded among private and public high schools, so good stream of motivated students. • Pay is fair. Annual (mostly) performance reviews provide relevant and helpful feedback. I've had good student results and happy parents, so good reviews, raises, and referrals. • Prep time required for each student session - with experience, this gets to be a smaller portion of overall time. There is (unpaid) drive time - company tends to offer students who live nearby. They also offer a pay bump for longer drives. And you can always decline an offered student. Finally, Summit has tools for remote tutoring - no drive time at all! Overall, their system is fair and works pretty well. • The office team (called program directors) handles all the non-tutoring stuff: finding students, billing, marketing, dealing with unpleasant families (very rare). So I just focus on my students ... and ask for help from the PDs when necessary. They are very good at what they do. The company provides just about all of the program materials you'd need - good stuff. • Training is offered. Tutors can broaden their options, and hence more student offers. Did I mention: you can take on as many or as few students as you can/want.
Cons
• Unpaid prep and drive time (described above). • To interact with other tutors and office staff, need to drive to HQ (not often required, but they're in Newton, which is an unpleasant drive for me!). Company does hold several social events each year - this helps a lot.
