Pros

Most of the staff were very pleasant to work with and there was a passion within them to do whatever it took to grow a successful company during some challenging times.

Cons

The lack of funding in the US Corrections space (County Jails / State Prisons) and an inability to afford investing in recent Offender Management software solutions (OMS) has put significant pressure on all OMS Vendors to generate the revenue necessary to sustain operations. At Syscon specifically, this has lead to continuous lay-offs. Furthermore, Management's inability to plan & execute the roll-out of their next generation solution hurt their reputation and market share in the OMS industry. I understand they still haven't released the product - 3 years after the original release date. I would have to caution others considering a career at Syscon - you shouldn't expect to be there for more than a year after being hired.

Interesting feedback – and nearly a year on we are clearly still here and in good shape and projecting 20% growth in 2016 over 2015. Yes, the global recession of 2008 impacted all vendors in this space, and yes, we like all our competitors, had to go through a down-sizing exercise to ensure the future of the company – this was necessary and has enabled the company to navigate the difficult period and be in prime position to take advantage of the market, with our new offender management software products, now the market is coming alive again with new sales opportunities. We won the largest opportunity of its kind in the USA in 2015 with our new offender management product and feel well positioned to build on this win in the near future. In terms of longevity of employment, we have employees with tenures of over 20 years and many of over 10 years. Like every company, we have a performance management program and sometimes people don’t make the grade and we have to part company with them.

Pros

Good work-life balance. The workload is generally reasonable, and the tasks assigned are manageable.

Cons

Payments are often delayed — typically processed 3 to 4 weeks after submitting your invoice. There is frequent restructuring, which creates a lack of job security and overall instability. The work environment often feels rushed and reactive, with poorly defined processes and limited communication. Apart from your direct manager, there’s little to no interaction with the rest of the team, which can make collaboration difficult and leave you feeling isolated.

Pros

Easy, flexible, low profile job. The Richmond office is very quiet come 5 o'clock. Nice and only occasional travel to some very fun cities.

Cons

Not great with rewarding employees and the pay/benefits are marginal. The benefits trended down the longer I stayed. Never offered any training. Nice coworkers but the talented ones do not last. The tools/technology is decent but it doesn't offer many opportunities to branch out.
