Pros

Tarka is hands down the best place I've worked. I'd think of it less as a company in the traditional sense, and more as a collective of experienced professionals who collaborate as a team. The organization is very flat, so there aren't really managers so to speak. There's nobody breathing down your neck to make sure you get your work done, policing your hours, or inviting you to endless meetings. You're simply trusted to be an adult who will get your work done and make sure the product is awesome! You're free to set your own hours and take time off as needed — no time off sheets or HR websites to deal with. It would be a mistake to think of this environment as the result of laziness though. This is the way things are because the founders had a very specific vision of how they wanted work to be, and have stuck to it. My experience is specifically on the design team. At the time of writing, we're 3-people strong including myself, all spread throughout the world. I've never worked with a team as capable as this one. Each of us would be able to run our own freelance business (and all of us have at certain points), so when we come together we're able to communicate effortlessly and build on each others ideas quickly. We're in touch on a daily basis, all collaborating on a limited set of projects. It's really been the best experience I've had with teammates, and I hope it can continue for many years to come. My stress level has gone down and my general happiness has gone up so much since starting here. I feel like I'm able to fully exercise and practice my craft, and I wish the world of work were more like this in general. I hope things are trending that way at least.

Cons

So what do I mean by "maybe not for everyone?" Well, as I mentioned above, Tarka really focuses on hiring experienced people, so if you're at the beginning of your career and wanting to learn, this probably isn't for you. There isn't going to be a lot of tutoring for basic level skills here. That's not to say there isn't mentorship or collaboration available, but you'll fit in better if you know your industry already. Honestly, you also might also not appreciate this place to the fullest if you haven't worked in more "traditional" companies for a while. Tarka is also fully remote, so if you value going in to an office every day (or even having that option) for the in-person contact and camaraderie, then that aspect of work isn't going to be available. These aren't really cons — just things to be aware of so you can make an accurate assessment depending on your situation.
