Student Success & Retention Department - Graduate Student Research Assistant Texas Tech University Employee Review

Pros

Wonderful work-life balance, very flexible hours with school schedule, and lots of opportunity to learn.

Cons

Didn't do the job I was hired to do, instead worked as a Peer Success Coach. Little direction from management (top-down issue), and ridiculously long and unnecessary meetings make it IMPOSSIBLE to get anything done. Also, the management stifled his student employees because (it seemed) he was very self-conscious about seeming lesser than his workers, and therefore took all their credit for himself.

Pros

Currently, there are no pros to working at Tech.

Cons

All of our course content must be approved by the new chancellor and the board of regents, who have admitted to using AI to review the titles of readings related to sex, gender, sexuality, and race. Professors across the university are impacted negatively. If you are a science instructor, particularly in biological sciences, you cannot teach scientific facts. Moving forward, graduate students will no longer be able to research topics covering sex, gender, and sexuality.
