Pros
My coworkers became my second FAMILY & I met some truly amazing clients! My job was very fulfilling work for me and I learned a lot & taught a lot while getting to grow as a salesperson. I worked nearly everyday for over a year, usually worked over-time because I WANTED to be there, and I fell in LOVE with the store. I was truly passionate about most aspects of my job and looked forward to it MOST days. The customers and coworkers are what made it (almost) all worth the grueling hours and criminally-low pay.
Cons
The big one: Raises and promotions are a LIE... I promise you that. I reccomend you stick to a “part time” position because even the best sales team members are over-worked, under-appreciated, and HARDLY make enough money to scrape by off 3% commission. Very much a shame! Also, (not to sound bitter by any means, because as I said before I truly loved my job), but each and EVERY manager that I had ever encountered was gossipy, lazy, and highly uninvolved in the day-to-day store operation. Last, but not least: you would actually be better off by quitting or getting hit by a train on your way to work than you are requesting ANY time off. Seriously. Time off? Need to adjust your availability to be able to attend university? You have pneumonia? YOUR FATHER PASSED AWAY? (Yes, my coworker sadly experienced this tragedy and my boss actually accused him of lying to get out of work and threatened his job if he didn’t show up to his shift after the funeral... NICE!) You can count on being completely erased from the schedule and never hearing back from your “employer” ever again because you can bet that you’ll be replaced in 24 hours. Talk about getting burned out. :/
