Pros

I got to work with an experienced UPS driver who had a system for delivering quickly and efficiently. He was friendly, but focused. We worked well together as a team. He would call me to schedule where and what time we would meet about an hour or so before that time. Sometimes it was the same, so he'd tell me tomorrow's at the end of the day. I packed a lunch, snacks, lots of water, and a jacket (I only used it one day...we're in FL). I ate all the food and sometimes had to take him up on his offer of an extra water bottle (I had packed 3). You're required to wear non slip black shoes. My combat boots got a TON of wear and tear, and I went through a few cheap shoe inserts. You're also required to wear black or brown, shorts no shorter than the knee, and pants must have a zipper and pockets (they can't be leggings, sweatpants, or gym pants). Skinny jeans and a long sleeve dry fit shirt were functional and looked professional. They also have rules about keeping your hair up and out of your face (off your shoulders). You get to ride in a side seat up in the UPS truck that pulls down (it looks and sometimes feels like an ironing board), with the doors open (no ac), the wind in your face...it's SO much fun! Of course, every time you get into or out of the truck you have to climb the high steps, sometimes while holding packages. The job is mostly fast walking to deliver the packages, then hopping back in the truck to go deliver the next one. Your legs will be moving of their own accord by the time you're done. I read up on the job before I applied and learned that some drivers prefer not to talk. All of them hate it if you're slow, but they appreciate if you do your best and put in the effort to keep them on schedule. It's not a job for someone who hates exercise. It's perfect for someone who wants to "get paid to work off holiday splurging." ;) They prepare you well in the training beforehand, and pay better than minimum wage. You're required to be able to carry a maximum of 50lbs. I had to a few times, sometimes a package required both me and my driver (those packages are marked). I'm a young lady, and my driver was respectful, watched out for me, and allowed me to carry the heavy stuff, even when he offered to do it. He always offered to carry the super heavy stuff, and a few times just delivered those and sent me off with small packages. I appreciated that he let me carry some heavy ones. We also split up to deliver at apartments. LOTS of stairs. Again, not a job for those who hate exercise. ;) All in all, it was a WONDERFUL experience, and I can't wait to do it again!

Cons

You're supposed to wear a vest that says UPS on it. My driver wasn't given one at first, then once he found one, it was way too big for me!

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
