Pros

UPS offers stability because the company is stable. The benefits are good, however they were better before they went public, at least for management. Pay is decent unless you figure out what the hourly pay would be and then it isn't that good. Good retirement benefits........ if you live long enough or survive the hostile environment the last 3-4 years prior to reaching the magic age.

Cons

If you are considering moving into management think long and hard. Here are the reasons why: If you are in management you do not have any protection. Management has a very high divorce rate (per HR prior to moving into management) and for a good reason. UPS expects management to work 12-14 hour days and not just during peak. You will get little training. Based on experience, it appears UPS promotes people without any proven people or leadership skills. Poor performers are moved to non-operational positions which is like a reward due to the shorter, more humane hours. And if you do well in an operational position you are condemned to operations, even if you have voiced other interests.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
