Pros

Admirable mission and amazing opportunities for students. Some of the most incredible people I have ever worked with. Everyone truly loves their students and wants them to succeed. Learned some effective strategies for the classroom. If you are a new teacher you will learn a lot.

Cons

Completely unreasonable workload. Prep periods are eaten up by meetings, duties, and subbing. Weekly hours-long mandatory PD. Disciplinary system that is both ineffective and creates unnecessary animosity between students and teachers. If you do not teach "their way," you will not succeed. Constant micro-managing and weekly deliverables. Frequent observations that are often more stressful than helpful. The highest staff turnover of any school I have ever worked at. Teachers quit in the middle of the year frequently because the stress is unmanageable.

Pros

Uncommon Schools is a really positive, warm environment. People work hard and have tons of joy in their collaboration!

Cons

We are growing quickly, so the work load is busy! This isn't really a con, just something for new folks to be aware of :)
