Pros
Working at DMC in Detroit, Michigan, I cannot think of any pros. I work at Harper Hospital on midnights from 7 p-7 a.
Cons
There are many downsides to working for Wayne Health. Very low ($107,000) pay for the work you are doing. We are required to work 14-12 hour shifts a month. Wayne Health hired only 2 individuals to cover Harper Hospital for midnights. I am one of the 2 APP providers. So, 28 days of the month they have 2 APPs that cover the hospital. We work alone, there is only one provider at night. I have to work by myself when I work. I admit patients from the ED and at the same time, I manage the entire Internal Medicine service of patients that are already admitted to the service. I also go to rapid response, codes, transfer patients to ICUs, order diagnostic test, labs, go to the floors for urgent/emergent situations and etc. There was a Internal Medicine Service previously that Wayne Health took over for. It was called Medicine B and it was under Tenet. There were 2, sometimes 3 providers at night. It ran smoothly and we only had to work 12-12hour shifts. There is no support for the APP on midnights. Lately when I come in the doctors are pass on 1-3 admissions and sometimes the admissions are from 2, 3, 4 and 5 o'clock. There are more cons, but these are the main ones.
