Pros

Opportunities to work in key PR markets, meet creative professionals such as chefs and entrepreneurs, assist with brand storytelling, and occasionally travel for client work.

Cons

During my time at Bread & Butter, I experienced internal bullying and an exclusionary “mean girl” dynamic that I had never encountered in any workplace before. The issue came to a head when a private email exchange between a senior Account Director and the CEO was accidentally sent to the entire company. The message included unprofessional and derogatory remarks about current employees—their appearance, clothing, and overall presence in the office. Yes, leaders are human and entitled to private conversations. However, this incident wasn’t an isolated moment of poor judgment. A close friend who also worked at the company witnessed a similar situation in a different office, and she was ultimately terminated. This leads me to believe that this kind of mean-spirited, petty, and belittling behavior is part of a broader cultural pattern within the organization. For young, aspiring PR professionals, it’s worth knowing that many agencies in the industry produce amazing work without engaging in this type of behavior. If possible, I’d recommend seeking opportunities at agencies that prioritize respect, mentorship, and psychological safety.
