Pros

There are some extremely talented and hardworking employees. The team members I got to work with daily are the only reason I stayed as long as I did. You will get to work with some cool hotels and restaurants.

Cons

There is a consistent recurring theme to the many negative reviews that should not be ignored, as they paint an accurate picture of the company culture. Almost all the positive newer reviews were solicited by leadership to brand new employees, which is why they all say “Current Employee, less than a year”. Like many, I had high hopes, but my experience was completely false from what I was sold on and repeatedly told. After two and a half years of consistently being lied to, zero genuine support, and lack of real appreciation from management, I could not continue to provide my skills and dedication to this company. From day one, it became evident that transparency and communication were nonexistent. Management will consistently tell you change is coming, a promotion is around the corner, or you will be able to hire help or a team. It is all smoke and mirrors and aligns with their lack of genuine care for employee well-being. As I was told by the President of the company, the CEO “has no empathy” in response to why the CEO never called me back after she unfairly accused me of having poor communication in a performance review she forced my manager to add. Note: I never worked directly for or with the CEO. This was shortly after I voiced concerns to HR about a layoff of an exceptional team member without notice or consideration for the impact on clients and remaining employees. In my own experience, when I attempted to address concerns and raised valid points about client, staff, or culture issues, I was met with "I hear you" followed by zero support, transparency, and ultimately everything continuously dismissed. The lack of empathy and complete disregard in caring for employees are apparent in the management that has been promoted. The Chief Digital Officer, who has only worked at this agency for the last 11 years, lacks the same empathy as her superiors. While possessing no real digital marketing skills to execute or support someone under her, she has the complete inability to be a supportive, ethical, and motivating leader. Two weeks into my employment at the company, my counterpart abruptly quit while emailing the whole company crazy stories about the Chief Digital Officer. At the time it seemed insane, but looking back holds truth to the manipulation, mind games, and treatment of employees. It is disheartening to see the countless talented, hardworking, and dedicated employees mistreated. The company's favoritism and toxic environment are pervasive. Colleagues who don't conform or speak up are marginalized and mistreated, while those in the inner circle are protected. I've witnessed countless employees be treated unfairly, pushed out, wrongly accused, and many just leave on their own. A total of 8 digital people including myself have left before mid-April this year, including my predecessor who was hired 4 months ago and putting in notice within a month of my resignation. The constant turnover should be alarming in itself. On top of these issues, I witnessed firsthand the company's unethical practices in client interactions. They would fabricate information during new business meetings, such as falsely claiming to have office locations or specific team members with certain skills, or agreeing to be able to do certain work without any plan or people in place to execute. I operate on complete transparency and it made me extremely uncomfortable to hear things twisted and clients being lied to. Overall, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company to anyone seeking a healthy work environment or ethical workplace practices. If you are wanting to feel valued, cared for, and to grow, I strongly recommended running the other way. Otherwise, proceed with caution.

Pros

b&B is a great place to challenge yourself and grow your skills in every sense of the word. I have learned so much about time management, teamwork, leading with a human-first approach, and finding community in your local office.

Cons

While the workload can ebb and flow, you have to be a hard worker and enjoy the hustle to do well here.

Pros

Opportunities to work in key PR markets, meet creative professionals such as chefs and entrepreneurs, assist with brand storytelling, and occasionally travel for client work.

Cons

During my time at Bread & Butter, I experienced internal bullying and an exclusionary “mean girl” dynamic that I had never encountered in any workplace before. The issue came to a head when a private email exchange between a senior Account Director and the CEO was accidentally sent to the entire company. The message included unprofessional and derogatory remarks about current employees—their appearance, clothing, and overall presence in the office. Yes, leaders are human and entitled to private conversations. However, this incident wasn’t an isolated moment of poor judgment. A close friend who also worked at the company witnessed a similar situation in a different office, and she was ultimately terminated. This leads me to believe that this kind of mean-spirited, petty, and belittling behavior is part of a broader cultural pattern within the organization. For young, aspiring PR professionals, it’s worth knowing that many agencies in the industry produce amazing work without engaging in this type of behavior. If possible, I’d recommend seeking opportunities at agencies that prioritize respect, mentorship, and psychological safety.
