    Pros

Great partnership between British Council (brand, domain expertise, contacts) and Blenheim Chalcot (venture building, tech capabilities, connections). Building something in a huge growth market that really matters - English proficiency is a passport to upward social / economic mobility for millions. Already seeing great traction - over 1million users

There is a great start-up team growing here

    Pros

Talented people ... I am so lucky to be working with some of the people at EnglishScore. The team is only small at the moment, but is growing month-on-month. On the tech side, there is a great opportunity to work with Rob (ex Head of Engineering @ the FT), and Matt ( mobile / engineering genius - and passionate about nurturing people). If you want to be part of a team that builds a multi-platform, global app, with millions of users and AI behind-the-scenes ... I can't think of a better place to do it. Charlie is an extraordinarily capable marketer. Karen a gifted service designer. Neel an insightful commercial lead ... and there are some amazing new people joining every couple of weeks. The team is also set in the environment of Blenheim Chalcot's digital venture incubator in West London, and we get to work alongside other exciting ventures (EdTech, Fintech, AdTech), and with a number of great people (Katie, Deepa, Louise ... too many to name).

    Cons

Do be ... self-starting, hard-working, curious. The type of person who says 'yes, let's give it a go.' If you prefer to be spoon-fed, this is probably not the right place for you.

    A company making a difference

Sep 17, 2019 - Senior Finance Manager in Hammersmith, England

    Pros

Working at EnglishScore is very fulfilling as I know the work we are doing is contributing to improving people's understanding of the English language. I have had exposure to many areas of the business I have not have had the opportunity to have otherwise and it has been a very rewarding experience. The team is energetic and of a high calibre. There is a great sense of team work and I am learning a lot from each of them.

    Cons

As a relatively new start up, there is a lot of work to be done. While this means you have exposure to aspects of the business you might not have had before, it also means less structure until the team gets bigger.

    Pros

It's still very early days, so there's massive opportunity to have a big impact on how the business grows and develops. There is so much that the company has the potential to do, so the future is bright, and they're fast-moving - so every week can have a very different focus, and you can see rapid, tangible progress on a daily basis. The team is good fun and very smart - a great combination.

    Cons

Not for anyone who wants to follow a process - you need to be able to use your initiative and have conviction.

    - We're building something that has the potential to change people's lives. That excites me. - We're a fun team who don't take themselves too seriously. - An open environment where you can bring your whole self to work - Lots of opportunities to challenge yourself and try new things

    Cons

It's early days so there is so much to do.
