Great place to grow and connect with others of all ages. There's opportunity to grow within the library field as well as other departments in the local government system. Really enjoyed the training programs available and flexibility of the library when it came to attending trainings.
Cons
Trying to move up within your department is difficult because there's a lot of competition.
- Library hours are decent. Closing is at 9pm, 5pm or 6pm so you arn't out too late. Start times are 10am or 1pm so not too much of an early start.
- Overtime not required. Very much a-go-in-do-leave-again job. Work doesn't travel home.
- Learn library shelving and procedures
- extensive knowledge of the dewey decimal system
Cons
- Scheduling can be all over the place. Really depends on manager.
- Poor Promotion Opportunities. Require too much experience to move up to a Library Aide.
- Poor branch management support in continuing to use skills learned in the Library Aide Training Program.
- Can be a very physical job - lots of kneeling, stretching and pulling/pushing.
