Pros

Free services was great, SOME of the stylists were kind and wanted to see you grow. Jeffrey, Micheal, and Jennifer who is no longer there.

Cons

I really, really wanted to like working for Fekkai. I was fresh out of beauty school and I took this head on. I was so honored to work there. Please, be aware that people there will be nice to your face but have a separate agenda. It really is a toxic atmosphere and it's not worth it to be paid $9 an hour as an assistant. The cattiness is unlike anything I have ever experienced. I used to get to Fekkai an hour early for fear if my train was delayed or the elevators in the basement were slow, I'd be written up. You MUST NOT be one single minute late. You will be written up and talked to like you are the most irresponsible employee. I am 28 years old and I have worked in the professional world prior to changing careers and I have never been treated with so much disrespect from an employer in my life. Some of the stylists/colorists assistants micro manage the shampoo assistants and management will take their side and tell you that they are trying to help. They're not. They're trying to make or break you and not in a healthy way. I felt such a great amount of relief when I quit. be aware.

Pros

- The friends you meet are what keeps you coming into work everyday, not everyone you meet is your friend though! Chose wisely. (Most stylists would smile and try to be buddy buddy with you, so you'll recommend them. Don't let it fool you, everyone is replaceable at Fekkai) - Services are free, even though it'll never be on YOUR time. Always FEKKAI time. (Basically, if you're not hounding people down for your services .. You'll never get them) Beware: Management would tell you to get 1 service done per week but it'll end up by them talking or what they do is EMAIL about you always wanting services constantly or them denying your service and saying "Someone else is already getting a service, try after work" (Only 1 person can do a service at a time)

Cons

Fekkai has to be the most horrible company one can work for in all honestly. - Management is HORRIBLE! They'll smile in your face and talk crap behind your back. FAKE FAKE EVERYWHERE - Want a day off? Sorry, Fekkai doesn't know what personal/sick days are. Literally, your life would be all about Fekkai. (They don't pay OT either, so if you're scheduled to leave at 5PM .. LEAVE AT 5PM) - In a room filled with mold in the carpets, breathing in dust and lord knows what for 8hours. (Oh, but make sure you won't get sick! Fekkai doesn't know what being sick is) - Depending on how much money you're bringing into the company is how much they'll like and respect you. - Coming in 1min late? Nope, you're getting written up (Seriously, being 1min late is the same as being 1hour late) But ... if you're bringing lots of money to the company, 1hour late and you have 5 incoming clients? SURE. NO PROBLEM, come in at anytime! We'll just have to call all 5 incoming clients and tell em you obviously don't care and will be late :) My pleasure.

Receptionist- Don't do it!

Pros

The people you meet and free services

Cons

Ha where do I start. When you start off as a receptionist you're put in this hotline looking office with no windows or circulation at that. They expect you to just sit there and stare at a screen the majority of your day. Can't read a book, can't read a magazine, can't eat a mint, can't even breathe. They make all these rules as they go by the way. Then these people really are extremely discriminating for starters, it's amazing how much they will pick out all your flaws. Yet half of management looks pitiful. I have naturally curly hair, so one day they made a stylist flat iron my hair during my shift because apparently it didn't look appropriate for Fekkai. Then when I asked the manager if it looked better she said "Much better". The second time I had my hair in a curly ponytail the salon manager said my hair looked horrible and tried to make me get my hair blown out. I refused and she said I wasn't able to cross the salon floor to use the restroom. She said if I wanted to use the restroom I had to go downstairs to the break room so no clients can see me. This place will nitpick every little thing you do wrong and they do not take the appropriate time to actually train employees who have never worked for a salon before! Yet they love playing the blame game when a mistake happens. And say things like they're cleaning up after our mess. Their weekly reviews are BS ... There is always something new that makes absolutely no sense. Hey you cannot say "sure, okay, not a problem" these terms are too casual. So prepare to change your entire vocabulary that you've learned your whole life for them. And if you don't get their lingo in two weeks get ready for the threats to be fired. It's almost as if you are an inconvenience to them. Like did you not hire because you needed receptionists? This place lets their clients and stylists run the show and it's incredible how unorganized they are. I would never ever recommend this job to anyone. Management sucks and the people here suck. You will only find a handful of gems but the rest of the people are just so miserable. For the amount you get paid... It isn't worth your sanity. Don't let these people bully you and use your own job against you. The name is just that, a name.
