Toxic environment

Pros

If your goal is just to get by this might be an ok place. There are some nice people.

Cons

Toxic managers who are like bullies run their finance department. Most of them have been stuck there for years and it’s doubtful they could have gotten jobs elsewhere. Those folks created a cult like environment. Employee turnover seems to have been always through the roof.

Pros

* Some of the employees are amazing and great colleagues. * You can get your foot in the door for support careers and get experience in areas like accounting, IT, product management, training, etc.

Cons

* Sexism, racism amongst management. Reported incidents to HR and got the response that I should just avoid topics that might get that type of response. What the actual.... * Poor base salary for travel consultants and poor salary for support. I was woefully underpaid. They keep you happy with this using cult-like tactics during "buzz nights" and global/local balls. * People were let go during covid via powerpoint presentation. Never heard from management at all after that either. It's morally disgusting. I felt awful for those employees. There was no support for them whatsoever.

Pros

Flight Centre hires some phenomenal people. So some of your coworkers are great.

Cons

- FC is deeply nepotistic and promotes based on popularity rather than merit, to the point of ignoring reported abusive behaviour when considering candidates for promotion. - Management will often engage in predatory sales tactics better left back in the 80’s, including teaching staff how to manipulate elderly customers and otherwise vulnerable customers into paying much more than they need to for flights so that the manager can meet their shop targets. - Margins are often entirely too high and bullying of the customer can follow should they not fall for the pitch. - Good for a first ever job. You know, the one you remind yourself you never want to go back to when you have a less awful job in the future.
