Pros

The shop opening hours are 9 to 5, you get commission on top of your wages.

Cons

You get two days off a week but the are not side by side. The owners of the Glasgow shop, are a married couple who are rude, narcissistic , liars, cruel and border line psychotic . Not an exaggeration, the male owner shouted at me on several occasions, the female owner would verbally abuse me and other members of the staff. EVIL.

Pros

9 to 5 hours (give or take, depending on the customers at closing time) Good commission of sales Good staff discount Good training (when they do it...) Knowledge from job helps you elsewhere in life.

Cons

Small shop mentality. The owners are husband and wife, manager has been there for over a decade now, you are always going to be an outsider. If one takes a dislike to you, they all do and it is 3 against 1. It is something I really wish I knew of before I worked here and I will keep in mind with small staff counts. Days off are never together unless something like Christmas and Boxing Day are involved so work life balance is not really there. Management have awful attitudes to mental health. Avoid if you have any mental health issues. Same goes for neurological disorders like autism. I was frequently shouted at, both in front of customers and downstairs in the shoe storage room. In hindsight they spoke to me in a condescending fashion. When they took a dislike to me, training was withheld. They failed to provide effective guidance when I was using the equipment alone for the first time and berated me when I made mistakes and wouldn't tell me what I got wrong. I remember one instance where when I forgot what came next in the assessment (it was my first one solo), I asked the manager what was next and she went "oh just let me do it" and I got yelled at off the female owner for showing the company up. Eventually, I got sacked, which I was hoping for as they wore me down so much. Except the female owner told me I resigned. I had not. Make of that what you will.

Pros

Started out a great place to work. Medical benefits were ok & holiday/sick pay grew with time invested. Morale was even great all around at one time. Discounted/free shoes & foot products were a definite plus. Adding HR dept was a huge step in the right direction. Some of the people who worked there showed a true passion for the company and its purpose. Many of the store owners & employees made a lasting impression. There was rarely a slow day.

Cons

People who r loyal, work hard & perform their job better than clueless people in charge, often train their replacement just before they get the boot. Impersonal power player execs with micro manager policies barking "just do it" orders to 2 midway mgmt that just mimic orders to bottom level workers with no idea how/if its even possible was a daily challenge Quarterly bonuses held back & kept quiet, later being excused by generic no bonus letter attached to paychecks. Hours subtracted from salary pay & no paid overtime... and SALARY CAPS!
