Never been in a role where the lawyers are so disinterested in business development and actively avoid engaging with the BDM team. The central infrastructure is non existent, and the different roles for each practice area are so siloed and separate that even knowing what is going on in other practice areas is nigh on impossible. Management are too concerned with high level strategy that they cannot see the issues at the lower levels. The entire firm hinges on the private wealth team and this is obvious throughout the firm via the lack of investment and focus on any work that hasn’t come through private wealth clients.
For anyone wishing to move up the ranks of business development or services, don’t bother, there is zero interest in developing anything other than yes-men. I was told by a manager that I had come into a role that was destined to fail. Overall their values are a tick-box exercise and have no impact on the organisation as a whole
