Pros

The employee benefits were competitive. There are some genuinely fantastic people here. The remote-working model can be very useful if you have a family, etc. The company respects your commitments and allows for a lot of time off and wellbeing days.

Cons

There is absolutely no future for staff at this company. Without revealing confidential information (this will soon be public information) the situation has become dire for all employees aside from the senior leadership. Senior management are disconnected from the departments they direct to an almost criminal level. The poor strategies and reactionary projects that have been forced on staff due to this disconnect have seriously affected company success. Many new people were hired to capitalise on an increase in submissions during the pandemic. Obviously this was short-sighted, but this is classic Frontiers. The situation has impacted the lower ranks the hardest – these ‘ranks’ in many cases filled with brilliant academics who understand science publishing like the back of their hand. People are struggling with morale as they feel powerless to make any real change. To add to this year’s difficulties, all company parties were cancelled (crucial opportunities for remote colleagues to meet). Despite this, money was easily found when leadership needed to relax in the alps for their own private event. All of this has been the perfect recipe for ‘quiet quitting’, as evidenced by many of the other Glassdoor reviews. I feel for the employees hit the hardest and those with families and mortgages. I hope you all find a place to work that makes you proud every day.

Pros

Great colleagues, remote work, salary ok

Cons

Once upon a time... There were happy employees and parties with free wine. The pandemic caused profits to soar, So let's employ 1000 more! After COVID was no more, The cracks became hard to ignore. Time after time decisions were bad, Change after change drove us all mad. Incompetent upper management poorly rule, Now 600 layoffs are incredibly cruel. The ship will sink, that much is true, And will too, the captain and her crew.

Pros

I have not met more passion in the workplace for the work they are doing. There is so much education here, we could run a country with ease. Working from home works. Communication between departments on the specialist and manager level is at it's best. The pension scheme for the UK is actually great! Wellbeing days are a thing and I endose them. Honestly, on paper - it should be excellent.

Cons

So why isn't it? If you share your ideas, be prepared to be shot down. If you are at all critical, be prepared to lose your annual payrise. If you have time off on xmas, be prepared to work it. Your colleagues and managers compete on brownie points where you throw others under a bus over taking real accountability. None of your own peers talk, it is a culture in silence, where you all hope the torch is never passed to you, as it will be met with criticism. Death by powerpoint. Death by MS teams daily updates... by many people Death by huddles. Death by spotchecks (Me and my managers...) I understand the need for some huddles, but they are run like smaller all hands, not huddles... Such a huge focus on numbers NOW NOW NOW - no one cares about the risk and integrity to the business' future as we can blame it on someone else... probably... Quality is spouted from the top - but as soon as hit hits the heads of the people underneath, they ignore and just want to break all pilots to improve stakeholder relationships for pure sales and numbers. Your work doesn't feel worthwhile and you just take it all day-by-day and hope you did nothing wrong, but you probably did. it went from managing your team's morale to kicking them all down to get them to quit with constant spotchecks, feedback on spotchecks. I am now more of a project manager and admin co-ordinator than I am a leader. This is such a shame, as no one has time for passion.
