GTG- A Great Place to Be

Pros

Over a decade ago, I decided to take a leap of faith and leave my current GIS Manager job to take a new role with GTG. It was a decision that I have not once regretted. Hard work, great clients, and owners that lead from the front have made the last 10+ years a learning and growing experience. I have been able to travel the world and meet some of the most professional and intelligent GIS professionals in the industry. GTG is truly a great place to be.

Cons

GTG managers and some employees are expected to travel. Some might think that it is a burden, personally, I enjoy it even when I have to leave on a Sunday afternoon or come home late Friday evening.

Pros

Diverse client base Ability to travel

Cons

The ownership lacks trust in its employees and does not allow them to perform their jobs with out a high level of micro management. The ownerships biggest concern is how much they are going to invoice a client on a monthly basis and holding staff to that number. They are not concerned about the life cycle of projects and how a project should be organized, managed and completed for a client to provide a high quality project. A great deal of pressure is placed on the Project Manager to complete, bill, and do all of the technical work of a project to ensure the highest project profitability.

Pros

GTG is a small, established GIS consulting company with a vast client base. With 20 years of experience in this field, they are experts at GIS innovation. Though I did not travel in my role, there are ample opportunities for travel, and working with clients all over the country - with some new international clients as well. The office is laid back but full of expertise in all areas including Software Engineering, GIS, and Marketing. Employee morale is high. They provide lunch on Friday, Krispie Kreme donuts on Thursdays, and for the holidays, we enjoyed a generous meal at a fine steak house in town. As a company, they also participate in activities outside of work as a team. My experience working with all members of the GTG team was positive. Everyone was friendly and my part-time hours were perfect. My time there was short-lived ONLY because my side home business was thriving and becoming increasingly busy. I simply had to give up my job at GTG to keep the home business going.

Cons

I don't have any "cons" about my experience at GTG.
