Pros

Benefits, focus on employee growth and well-being (Health, Safety).

Cons

As much as educational growth is important, the continued education requirements are excessive and too demanding and burdening. Constantly received email reminders of monthly "REQUIRED" online training by one of the coordinators. Some as long as 4 -6 hours. And if you didn't complete it, she would then send out another email while cc'ing the regional VP!!! Many of us worked well over 40 hours a week doing our jobs, but they expected us to (and I quote) "take the course during Sunday breakfast." WHAT?

Hostile Work Environment

Pros

Good salary for the industry.

Cons

The environment at Gilbane is extremely hostile and does not encourage professional development. Managers are pressured to drive employees as hard as they can and extort the maximum amount of hours possible. There is very little positive reinforcement and an excess of negative reinforcement. You will be working in conditions where you are exposed to dangerous working environments and treated as a tool rather than a team member.

Pros

People were professional, nice, and hard-working.

Cons

Connection between Providence and West Coast operations was not always on display. Some 'senior' management was put in place (regardless of horrific annual results - not being awarded a CONUS building project for nearly two years) because of prior relationships at other companies. Quasi-tools (e.g., cost reporting) were strictly set up for accountants, and lacked feedback information to operations and estimating - told by senior management "...it was because they chose not to buy that module". Minor league education program for new hires.
