I worked at Guru Studio full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Artist's needs are protected over everything. Stable employment.

    Cons

No training whatsoever. Afterwards, prod employees get in trouble for not doing things correctly in spite of lack of training. Blame game for every problem that comes up. Position is described as entry level, yet prod people are overworked, mistreated and sometimes publicly berated. Hr has a blind eye for issues involving the production employees and when issues happen, there's no investigation or follow up.

I worked at Guru Studio full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The only pro of this studio are the kind and talented artists that work here. These people are the only respite from the abusive and cliquey upper management and producers.

    Cons

Guru does not respect the production staff whatsoever. It is well known that the studio defends producers who have a STACK of complaints - and despite the mental abuse these producers put their staff through, the company happily shoves this under the rug. This studio prides itself on being "artist driven" but often forgets production is the back bone of any project. Treat people with basic respect. Oh also let's not forget that if you choose to work here, be prepared to make a little over minimum wage. You're promised masterclasses during the recruitment process, but in my time at Guru, I've seen a couple actually seen maybe 2 or 3 pan out. Please provide the career development you actually promise your employees.

We’re sorry that you had this experience at Guru. We work hard to ensure our staff feel supported. We certainly do not condone any behaviours that are viewed as abusive or offensive. All employees should feel valued, respected, and heard and our People & Culture team are always working to create an even better working environment for everyone. Our new masterclasses, along with other learning and development opportunities will be starting back up again. Your feedback is valued, so thank you!

I worked at Guru Studio full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It's a fun studio full of kind friendly people. They have neat events and parties and the community is great. The work is rather stable and constant as well. The hours were flexible. The IT department was super fast at answering issues, and their pipeline is the most mature I've experienced to date. They have lots of efficient tools to spend more time actually working rather than having to troubleshoot. The hours were flexible and manageable, which is great for personal time. In other studios I would end up doing extra time easily. I never had to stay extra unless I wanted to work more on a shot for personal fulfillment, and I was allowed to do so, which was also great. I also learned a lot during my time here, and the supervisors were great as well!

    Cons

The pay was a bit on the low side, but to make up for it, I managed myself well and didn't need to do many extra hours.

I have been working at Guru Studio full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This studio is perfect for new animators to get their feet wet in the industry. The mentor ship offered to new animators is amazing (feed back fridays/master classes). The studio looks at your goals as an artist and helps create a path for you to get there. They also understand work life balance allowing flex hours, because of this i was able to continue on with post grad studies on the side. Work is constant and stable on most shows. - Amazing / diverse projects -Flex Hours -Mentor ship and growth -Safe stable work -Good benefits

    Cons

Pay is lower then most studios but its evened out by good projects and stable work.

I worked at Guru Studio full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Creativity and storytelling are front and center. - Highly ambitious in their approach to creating just about anything - aim for the stars! - As a result, some of your best work will come out of this studio. - You get to work on a wide range of products across television, games and film. - 99% of marketing initiatives are managed and executed in-house: from designing merchandise to putting together a live show, you get to do it all. - Cross functional collaboration! Unlike other studios, at Guru, you get to collaborate directly with producers and artists on marketing related initiatives. - The people are highly talented and super friendly, your coworkers will inspire you every day.

    Cons

    - There should be as much focus on the people as there is on the amazing brands that come out of the studio

I worked at Guru Studio full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Love the flexible hours, talented team, management is nice.

    Cons

Communication is really really bad, there is always an in-between person before the info gets to you, management and directors never speak directly to the team. Pay is also very low, if you do your research Guru pays one of the lowest salaries in this field downtown.
