The developer department at Gurus is run very poorly. The director openly acknowledges that it’s a revolving door for talent, yet their response is simply, “it’s always been like this.” There is no genuine effort to improve retention, listen to feedback, or modernize practices.
The focus is almost entirely on billable hours. While innovation, growth, and exploring new technologies are discussed by developers, nothing meaningful is ever acted on. Any progress relies solely on individuals taking the initiative, but with low pay and no career path, there is little incentive to do so.
If you raise concerns about compensation, you’ll be told that competitive salaries elsewhere are “unsustainable.” In practice, they rely on cycling through new graduates or those willing to accept salaries well below industry standards.
As a developer, you will be severely overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated. Ambition and initiative rarely lead to meaningful opportunities, leaving developers with little motivation to go beyond their basic tasks. If you are someone with ambition, someone who wants to make a meaningful change or achieve more, you will likely end up feeling deflated and even burnt out. If you are motivated by growth, career development, or being part of a forward-thinking group, this is absolutely not the place to be.
