Rewarding, challenging, and authentic – with a great product!
Pros
- Pay is fair and competitive. I know many people will want to know that first! - Widely used and much-loved product makes marketing it easier and more authentic. - Company is commercially successful, stable, and independent, without the customer-hostile incentives often present in VC and PE-backed companies. I never feel like the marketing is compromised by poor business decisions. - Management structure is fairly flat and gives everyone a lot of responsibility, as well as access to senior management. - The product, technology, and engineers are world-leading, making it a fun challenge to keep up with it all to deliver great technical marketing. - The team is global, highly distributed, very smart, and motivated. It's a pleasure to work with them. That includes my own team, my immediate colleagues, my management line, and the other teams (sales, product, engineering, support). - The various teams work together extremely well. Better than anywhere else I've worked. Sales and Marketing actually get along! - I've had the opportunity to develop a lot in this role, both technically and strategically. I am praised when I do well, and gently corrected when I mess up! - The company is on an exciting trajectory. It's not only growing fast, it's competing with some of the biggest and most well-known names in tech. That's a fun challenge for the marketing team.
Cons
- The learning curve on starting is steep. I spent my whole career working in networking and app delivery/security, so I thought I would find it simple to get started at HAProxy Technologies. But these guys are operating on a whole other level. I had to up my game pretty fast to keep up. That sort of challenge might not be for everyone.
