Not great to be honest... You can do better!

Pros

Great training, good visa and residency support, large community and social events.

Cons

Illegal practices (unpaid work, fines etc), your working hours, conditions and location are essentially a lottery, lower pay than average language schools in Taiwan, six day working week, generally poor practices.

Very difficult to take holidays - only able to take time off if you can find cover for all your classes In school 9am until 9pm when covering other people's classes No say in schedule, can't refuse classes so long work days The training is common sense and you have to take time off paid work to attend

Pros

Set curriculum, some training, reliable hours, too big to get away with racist hiring practices.

Cons

Pay is poor compared to elsewhere for Taiwan, as are hours. Limited choice on where they will put you on the island. The training okay, but very much felt like each batch of teachers was being churned out en masse, with very little individual attention.

We appreciate your feedback. HESS is proud that we are an equal opportunity employer. Our staff is diverse and we look at applicants skills and attitudes. As of the summer of 2018, we are increasing our pay to NT$620 to 660 per hour. This put us well above most other schools. We also strive to give our teachers as many hours as they can manage. With over 200 schools and more than 600 teachers, we are more able than other schools to offer the hours people are looking for. Our training is one of the best offered in Taiwan. Whether it is the centralized training organized by our headquarters, or our area and branch trainings, we care about giving our teachers the tools they need to be effective teachers.
