This firm is now a joke

Pros

Used to be a good firm with some great people and a friendly, open culture, but always struggled with profits

Cons

Sale to private equity is regrettable. It's no longer a partnership, and the title "partner" is now utterly meaningless. If you're looking for partner opportunities and career progression, look elsewhere. Here, you will work just as hard for a fraction of the reward and be treated like an employee. There's a lot of change, not much of it good. A lot of pointless training and initiatives that never really go anywhere. People are deeply unsettled. Things look chaotic. Management is pretending that everything is going well and everyone is excited, which is completely at odds with reality. The prospects don't look great.

Camel on a Rock

Pros

It is a paying job.

Cons

The problem with teaching your leadership team/line managers that those who do not perform as requested are camels sat on a rock (and that it is your job to sharpen said rock), is that all employees suddenly look like camels and any (reasonable) dissent results in management considering that person to be a camel and refusing to budge. To those reading this: the camel on a rock is a real example taken from the leadership training by the way.

HGF - A Legacy Lost

Pros

Once a haven for those who dreamed, Where ideas flowed and brilliance beamed. A firm renowned, its name held high,

Cons

Now dimmed beneath a privateer’s eye. For three decades, ‘twas built with care, A culture of trust, beyond compare. But profits called, and values sold, Replaced by goals of heartless gold. Partnership dreams now fade away, No ladder left to climb today. Morale has sunk, the spirits drained, What once inspired now feels constrained. The seniors flee, the juniors doubt, What is this path they’ve set about? Workloads swell, but joy declines, The cracks appear in once-strong lines. Beware, dear friend, who joins this crew, The place you’ll meet isn’t the one we knew. A shell remains, though polished bright, Its heart replaced, obscured from sight. If you seek growth, look elsewhere near, For this firm’s glory has disappeared. And while we mourn what’s left behind, We march ahead, new paths to find.
