I worked at Hertz full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay was good, and there were some nice people to work with, but they were few and far between

    Cons

After joining Hertz I was left completely unsupported by my line manager and thrown in at the deep end. The response when asking for additional support was "You're at a director level, I shouldn't need to support you", the fact that this lack of support was combined with a complete lack of organisation left me feeling completely overwhelmed for a job that I was more than qualified to do. As a result of this, my mental health took a severe downturn and I was left doubting my abilities. I left Hertz without another job to go to as the culture was appalling. Peers and colleagues spoke to each other with complete disregard, and my line manager went as far as to tell me that they had saved someone from being fired, but wish they hadn't. On leaving, payroll were completely incompetent in paying out my last salary payment, and couldn't even fill out a P45 correctly. As a result of this I ended up on emergency tax, as not only did they not fill out the P45 correctly, they didn't even bother sending it to HMRC. This was once a great company, but it's completely rotting from the inside.

I worked at Hertz full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good people to work with, and I was part of a good team

    Cons

A rent a car company is not easy to run, it requires high borrowing from banks, increasing cost of maintenance and fleet cost, high airport fees, a variety of competitors for corporate accounts, and savvy tech brokers with high fees for leisure customers. All of these combined with several older VP’s with little idea of how technology has evolved, created Hertz Europe, a big logistics enterprise that runs at negative margins and underperforming shares which create pressure to invest even less, constantly impacting jobs in operations, but never the high salaries and expensive travel of senior management. I worked for Hertz Europe for many years, and from Michele (The guy who once said, believe it or not, I am not God) to Tracy (who never bothered leaving her office), this was always a poorly run company full of red tape, politics, secrecy, and overall, a lack of the true leadership needed for a company with these type of challenges
