Pros

There is only one ‘Pro’ to working in the Procurement & Logistics department and that is experience. You will potentially be given high responsibility from day one. If you grab this with both hands you can be getting involved with some interesting projects that have huge business impact. However, this is very rare and you have a 1 in 3 chance of getting it.

Cons

There are a significant number of ‘Cons’ to working in Procurement & Logistics at HUM. -It is expected that you do AT LEAST an hour overtime every day. If you do not then you will be called out on it. -Expect to be man managed with no trust to fulfill your duties. This is the department’s approach to management and leadership. -Out-dated processes & systems. It is incredibly demotivating to know that 75% of the tasks you complete could be automated very easily. ‘It’s always been done this way’ is the excuse. Change is feared. - Bureaucracy & Administration is rife. You will be forced to make a presentations on the most trivial things almost everyday, taking hours to complete. Meaning that there is no time to actually do meaningful work. You prepare all these presentations and chances are they won’t even get looked at properly. It’s a management technique to make sure you are doing work. -Planning and project management is shocking is this department meaning that associates have a terrible work/life balance (Your attempts to change this will be met with scorn). -No leadership. People get promoted by being good at Procurement, NOT by having good leadership, management, project management or creative skills. Resultantly There is a culture of management by fear and dictatorship. -Toxic atmosphere. No one is happy and people go home crying. People join and will leave within a year. Staff turnover is incredibly high. -Bullying. A lack of emotional intelligence means that bullying is rife in this department. It goes unpunished despite numerous formal complaints. -Stuck in the old days. This company is so resistant to change. Largely because of the culture of fear and not being able to share ideas without being shot down.

Pros

Given more responsibilities than in job description, opens up opportunities. Great Company Ethos.

Cons

To many management and direction changes, continued start-ups and discontinuation of projects. Senior managers are like Ostriches, head in the sand, pretend all figures show up well in their personal reports toi make them and their dept look successful, until a follower can sort out the mess. Run continuously after trends set by premium brand competitors. Continuous talk about 'respect for the individual' but in reality this applies only if you are higher up the ladder. If you make a request to progress in your role & area you are soon put into your place and asked to apply for other vacancies.
