Communication can sometimes be a challenge with a remote team, but efforts are made to ensure this is constantly being improved upon.

- Terrible communication between different levels of management - Too many big egos at play pretending to know things without actually knowing them - Manual and outdated tech stack - Blind points among the founding team causes them to get defensive about their actions even when asked simple questions by employees - Little to no training provided followed by unrealistic expectations with the resources employees are armed with - Low pay within the ed-tech industry

Co-founders are hardworking, but firm believers in work-life balance. Love the autonomy with the role and always feel like my voice is valued and considered.

Work ebbs and flows so sometimes the days are longer than others. I don't really consider this a con, but more of a "comes with the territory" of being at a high-growth start-up. Co-founders always give me my time back after pushes, but it can be slightly draining while going through it.

Pros

There are so many opportunities to grow and expand in Hoot. As a start-up, there are many newly created positions regularly, so if your work feels repetitive, and you want a change, there are a lot of options. The inclusive nature of the workplace and the strong female leadership are true assets that are hard to find elsewhere.
