Pros

* Some cool people hidden inside here and there (all moved on or kicked out of course) * I got paid * had potential

Cons

I was one of the original team members, a month after the company started myself and some other employees got pulled into a lawsuit with a previous company cause they hated the CEO, so yeah getting personally sued by a multi-billion dollar corp for joining a company was a con. Worked on projects for a year on a shoestring budget, told we would get a better budget to work on some good R&D but never happened. We never were able to work on any products that could be licensed or sold to clients, always trying to do ad-hoc projects for clients. Sales team was constantly cycled. Saw good people treated poorly, and others come and go and then left myself for a better opportunity. Another year later I get a call with another offer from the CEO, sounds too good to be true but others insisted things had changed and everything was roses (and too a degree they were since there was a budget and team now) so I decided to give it another shot back there. Nothing but confusion and waste is all I can describe the second run. The internal projects weren't a good fit for the teams and they were wasting more money on videos than the budgets to build the thing the video was supposed to demonstrate. More people leaving as I was walking back in, some by choice others not (like more sales people getting cycled) but it wasn't long since 3 months later got laid off along with all the R&D and others, no real explanation other than no money, no apology. Then was asked to sign a document to get a pity severance that was really a gag order (not gonna happen). Shame on me for falling the second time, but it was people I had worked with / for during the last 5 years, so honestly didn't expect it. There is no secret sauce, there is no product, there is no money, just Hype. It wasn't because there wasn't talent there but because the talent couldn't do their thing and like a hyper giant start its quick to burn out and full of gas.

Pros

Best job ever! I really loved the lack of work-life balance. It was like a gift that kept on giving, every night and every weekend. Couldn’t get enough! As an egomaniacal person myself, I was really challenged to compete with the best. They made me totally rethink the direction of my moral compass and for that, I’m eternally grateful. I realized that I was taking my integrity a little too seriously. Ethics in software? Get out! That’s ridiculous. Working in an unrealistic, unsupportive, environment has always been a life goal of mine and I thought I found the perfect haven. Nailed it! I learned so much about how to hide the truth when you don’t have the resources promised to the client through a contract. In the past, I felt guilty about these things, but here, I was right at home. Why should a client know what they are paying for? It’s really none of their business. Making it rain! Sometimes I like to pretend I’ve made this really cool thing or claim that I can. People don’t really need to know if I actually made it as long as they think I’m a bad-ass and give me money. I found that my true calling is with people that feel the same. It’s been a real eye-opener and I’ll definitely use this tactic in the future. Overall, this was a very positive experience for me, I would highly recommend this job to anyone that enjoys being deceptive and treating employees like dollars and not like people. All good problems to have!! I would give 5 stars except for the fact that there are some decent people there that care. So they lose a star because caring shows weakness in my opinion.

Cons

You know, I can’t really think of anything. Amazing place to work.

Pros

despite the negative rating here I enjoyed my time at hypergiant due to the awesome (rank and file) folks I worked with. Management and executive leadership on the other hand is a different story.

Cons

The idea and vision is solid and its easy to get sucked into start drinking the kool aid. But, when you take a step back and peel off the veneer that the cool retro marketing paints over everything the reality is very very different. The original founders and leadership are quite narrow minded and if you don't fit or ask hard questions they DO NOT like it and will let you know or worse just alienate folks before letting them go. As some other reviews here have suggested they do in fact have giant egos. Some new executive leadership folks came in months ago allegedly to help right the ship but they too have made some rash decisions in my opinion without fully understanding a situation or speaking with employees to get a grasp on their abilities and value. This has led a handful of talented folks to leave, be let go, or start looking elsewhere despite the run of recent press releases that hype up an image of unprecedented company success. Again like another reviewer already suggested it is very hard to reconcile the save the world and make the world a better place rhetoric when the majority of the work comes from oil and gas. It really just felt like the the CEO and marketing folks are opportunistic with current events to try and associate the company with what the current new story is or was especially in regards to climate change.
