Worst Job I Ever Took

Pros

Good bunch of new talented geoscientists coming up the ranks.

Cons

Oversold at interview - turn around time for feedback and job offer was ridiculous. Didn't listen to gut and took the job anyway. Big mistake. ION have no integrity or care for their employees. Top heavy on management, ZERO confidence in top level executive leadership and politics galore. Witnessed numerous cases of actual bullying in the Egham office and everyone turned a blind eye. Horrible location - cost to travel there on public transport was extortionate and if you moved to Egham you would be stuck there. Ended up taking me a year to recover my confidence after leaving.

Top heavy organisation, potentially doomed

Pros

Technically challenging and interesting projects; friendly and helpful colleagues and pretty good working conditions overall with good training to support staff

Cons

Top heavy management structures; board and CEO putting the survival of the company at risk through inappropriate strategy decisions; playing at big company corporate America detracts focus from the real issues in the organisation

Time to replace the CEO and old guard

Pros

Great young talent pool who are willing to learn

Cons

Poor leadership and no core values or integrity. Very reactionary rather than proactive yet the leaders who make poor decisions and remain rooted in the past remain blinkered and believe lay offs the only way forward rather than look at the business as a whole. Top heavy with micro managers who do not understand the industry and prefer to blame the clients for ION failing to deliver rather than looking at internal processes. Lack of procedures and quality assurance means that a young talented work pool are not looked after.
