Unethical company

Pros

- You get to work from home (although this is true of any online teaching company) - You get bonuses for various things

Cons

- The company charges students app £15 per lesson and contracted teachers receive £5, flexi teachers from £4.50-£6.25 - Teachers are expected to attend seminars, complete training, plan lessons, write reviews and attend meetings without any pay whatsoever - The company threatens the teachers with fines and loss of position if these UNPAID tasks are not completed to their ever changing standards - The manager is often very rude and patronising to teachers - Flexi teachers can go weeks without a booking while contracted teachers are fully booked - Ultimately, IQBar is an unethical company - they 100% treat teachers as employees (rather than independent contractors) but don't pay any sick pay, holiday pay or pension.

Stay far away from IQBar

Pros

Mostly nice kids, flexibility with where you can do it. However these are pros of jobs of this nature and aren't exclusive to this company

Cons

Mostly from the manager who acts aggressively and unprofessionally. She clearly has no idea what she's doing and is constantly changing rules and conduct. Also constantly threatening employees with strikes and penalties for simple mistakes. No holiday, sick pay or national insurance contributions. Employees expected to attend unpaid seminars and devote free time to planning and uploading materials. This would be fine if it was reflected in better pay and benefits. All lessons are recorded which is understandable but it also means you are constantly monitored. The wechat app is constantly going off and it makes it feel difficult to remove yourself from the job during free time.

Pros

You can set your own hours

Cons

The Manager and the pay are the main cons. I was enjoying working at this company - especially with the Breadies and then after 2 years I was having an online meeting with the Manager and I mentioned that I was not going to work for less (it was already a very low rate) and she suddenly took offence and I found myself instantly sacked as she had taken offence. She has no idea on how to handle other staff and should never have been put in such a powerful position in the first place. I would probably still be working there to this day if it wasn't for her.
