    I worked at Insight

    Pros

Inspirational founder who set the business off to grow faster than competitors and instilled it with genuine values and energy. Although it was a tough ‘school’. Some great people still in place. Is quite large. Culturally confusing. Values are nice but not really changing the ground up approach.

    Cons

Leadership has steadily deteriorated leading to the latest CEO. The leadership is largely superficial. Big on style and statements but weak on execution. Organically the business has lost market share and has to acquire in the US to keep pace. This leads to a messy and incoherent plan in the US. Europe and Asia are largely left without investment. Poor SAP system in the US and Asia. Expensive and... cumbersome. EMEA installed a stop-gap system which has lasted 10 years and feels too old now.

  5. "Not that good"

I have been working at Insight

    Pros

You get to work from home on Fridays. It is a big company and dependent on where and who you work with it could be great.

    Cons

The company culture is not very nice in the Uxbridge office everyone seems stressed and busy, and like with anything it really depends on what team you end up on and who you work with and some of them are very badly managed. There seems to be little to no support for new starters essentially you’re given a laptop with an inbox and left to get on with it also if you are on a busy team you are expected to do overtime... so I wouldn’t say you have great work/life balance either.

    Advice to Management

Better structure for new starters - yes the 2 day induction is great, but there should be a better on boarding once people are on their teams and someone should be checking on the management of each team on what they are doing to get the new person trained up on their job etc. I have watched a new person be reduced to tears not knowing what they’re supposed to be doing as they have just been left in a corner and... someone else being asked to do tasks that are not a part of their job which essentially they were penalised for.

I worked at Insight full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    None that come to mind

    Cons

Archaic customer management tools and processes. Sales management who are driven by quarterly margin performance to maintain the grace and favour of the product vendors. Lip service to the rapidly maturing digital transformation market, whilst lacking the solutions and services to truly address the needs of clients. Many long-term sales staff lack the skills to interpret the transformation aspirations of... their clients, or to articulate the value of the limited cloud, automation and analytical services that Insight can deliver today. The time taken to define and enable new service offerings is unacceptable in a rapidly evolving digital market.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond the quarterly product revenue targets, define what you need the organisation to look like in three years time, and hire a senior leadership team capable of delivering against that vision. Whilst you congratulate yourselves on surviving another year of legacy product sales, your competitors are continuing to move further ahead. Companies such as Crayon, Bytes, CDW, Perfect Image, Sungard, Zen and... Rackspace are driving the digital innovation conversation with your clients, and providing the services to change the way these clients deliver applications and knowledge to their employees.. Consider the average tenure of your cloud sales specialists - that should tell you something about the frustrations faced by the cloud sales teams, who are constantly disappointed by the inability of sales and services leadership to deliver a relevant and innovative solution portfolio that meets the expectations of your clients. Be brave, throw off the shackles of the legacy product vendors and invest in the right skills to scale out the nascent DI team. They are the one bright spot in a lacklustre services organisation - without this, Insight will continue to fall behind the competition. Look at the capabilities of the current leadership teams - do they have the skills and experience to recruit and retain the new breed of digital challengers that you need to drive the transformational agenda your clients are developing with your cloud, automation and analytics enabled competitors.

I worked at Insight full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a company that has a strong belief in it's core capabilities of reselling hardware and software, with good reason. Sellers are skilled at sourcing, pricing and delivering hardware and software from a vast range of vendors.

    Cons

Insight are struggling to come to terms with a fast changing market and continually changing demands from it's clients. Focused and rewarded on a transaction-based profit outcome utilising a dated and increasingly irrelevant business model, it will have to work hard become a supplier of exciting and innovative technologies for it's clients and transform into a solution-oriented service delivery organisation. Root... and branch reform is needed to reconfigure the sales and marketing strategy to catch it's competitors (let alone overtake them). Massive actions are needed to fully embrace cloud delivery models with a fast realisation that the past is not the future. I cannot say this is a customer-centric organisation today and that, unless rapidly changed, will be the biggest inhibitor to future growth and success.

    Advice to Management

Remove the silos. Make the customer the centre of everything. Stop rewarding sellers on profit. Execute the transformation strategy to a managed services organisation at a MUCH faster pace than is currently evident. Develop and deliver service offerings that are relevant to today's market. Sales and marketing staff need much more education, training and enablement to move with the times. Finally, start real... co-selling with your partners.

Thank you for the feedback. It is important to note that Insight does work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and Insight does a great job at adapting to those changes as quickly as possible. Insight has become a major competitor in the marketplace and it's ability to acquire new companies, which allows Insight to become much stronger, is a great advantage. Thank you for the constructive feedback and thank you for writing a review.
