Sigh, where do I even begin. Ignorance is bliss and in the first few weeks of working here, that was exactly what happened. I loved the idea of this company and the people I worked with but more and more I found out the secrets. The illegal things that were going on, the way people were treated, how the salary employees were expected to work late and looked down upon if they finished and wanted to leave early, how part-time employees were forced to come work on the weekends without pay, how the founders continue to lie to the team (and honestly the influencers we worked with) about where the clothes actually come from (and some days admitting it while other days completely rejecting that idea).
I went to them to say, hey I believe in this company, what you're doing is illegal, let's find an alternative (that yes might take a little bit longer but at least we can fix it) so we're not stuck here or dealing with real consequences. Of course that led them to firing me but they knew they couldn't legally fire me for that so they tricked me into signing a paper that I quit.. then later telling the employees that I was racist to Chinese people which is why I left...sigh... (Basically they wanted to make sure they don't lose the loyalty of the other employees, trying to sweep what happened under the rug and this wasn't the first employee they tried to paint a false picture over after they left). Within my 100 something days there, I had 3 Marketing Director bosses and right after I left the current one I had left as well. So within 4 months, there were 4 directors. That's not normal, it's a huge position to fill and a very fast turnaround. That should tell you what was happening. Each one figured out what happened, some of them gave up on trying to fix it, others tried to fix it (like me) and got fired. I'm a positive person and maybe a little too naive because I believed what they were saying until I realized it was all lies and manipulation which is when they decided to let me go. I have never ever been in such a toxic environment and it was one of the lowest parts of my life, second guessing everything and constantly worried about the legal things. It makes me sick to my stomach that this company constantly tricks people (from employees to the media, to influencers) and that they know perfectly well what they are doing and they are good at it. I can say with confidence that if the Creative Director / Photographer wasn't working there, this company would crumble. I guess it's what they say about not judging a book by its cover. Dig a little deeper than their initial web appearance and social media and see for yourself. I'm not going to give specific details because I don't think it's necessary, I just want to warn other people who look at this company and think it's the dream job like I originally did. So sad...
