Pros

There are still some very hardworking and talented employees here, although they are heading for the hills because of the destruction of this wonderful institution by incompetent leaders. The historical accomplishments are something to be very proud of, yet the future for the library is bleak.

Cons

A terrible place to work with appalling leadership who do not care about employees. Trust is at an all time low and workplace stress is off the charts. This is a culture of intimidation and unfairness where employees are persecuted for having innovative ideas. Executive director took a massive pay increase, gave her directors huge bonuses, then refused to give market increases to frontline staff. Staff engagement survey results were hidden from staff and the trustees because they made leadership look bad.

Pros

Many of the people "on the ground" providing direct services to patrons are doing a great job, as are several support units in the system Substantial budget and many library locations. Colorado is a great place to live. Competitive pay for the position I held. Moderate flexibility. Good benefits for a library system. The values and mission of the library are spot-on, however public services leadership doesn't actually live up to them.

Cons

Exceptionally risk-adverse, top-down, homogeneous management. Most employees are afforded little autonomy and discouraged from asking questions, learning from external perspectives, forming bonds with one another or even collaborating or sharing ideas. Woefully inadequate systems for information and project management that date back to the early 2000's. The organization seems primarily invested in keeping a small group of narrow-minded elders in power, at the cost of providing innovative services or programming, truly helping in-need populations and otherwise fulfilling the role of a modern public library.

Pros

Competent, knowledgeable, helpful and hardworking ship mates who tirelessly swab the decks.

Cons

At the helm of HMS LIE-BRARY, a public-funded, rudderless, ghost ship, is an incompetent pirate who has patches over both eyes. Captain BlighND makes those who might have a different point of view walk the plank or are thrown overboard in the middle of the night, in hopes that no one will notice. Current ship mates need to gather their life preservers and jump from the deck so they can swim safely ashore or hope a new employer rescue boat saves their life. New recruits need to avoid the temptation to come aboard and do whatever they can to avoid the command of Caption BlighND.
