Pros

The current Art Director is fantastic. She knows what she’s doing, communicates clearly, and should honestly be running the team. Kidrobot gave me my first job in the industry, and I’ll always be grateful for that start.

Cons

I worked here for 6 years, and in that time, management never improved. Pay is far below industry standards. I started as a junior sculptor at $35k, and even as Head of Sculpt, I topped out at only $51k. Work-life balance does not exist. You’re expected to work nights and weekends, even while remote, with no appreciation. Leadership shows a lack of respect and communication.

Pros

This looks like more space to write cons, because there are no pros. This company does not function at all. If you are a creative person, looking for a fun, laid back job at a hip art toy company, look elsewhere.

Cons

Kidrobot has an identity problem. Kidrobot was a brand founded on bringing art and artists to the mainstream through art figures, collabs, and artist spotlights. Make no mistake, it is Not the same company today. They do not understand what consumers want and fundamentally lack the potential to make anything 'cool' ever again. There are strong creative on the team, but every single one of them struggles. Not only are they buried under mountains of uncreative, cheap, licensed products, they are poorly managed, underappreciated, gaslit and abused. Let's take a look at specific issues: Kidrobot is owned by Neca, and has No oversight of what is being created and No visibility into the production pipeline. I and others have personally felt like sketch monkeys. As a creative if you try to ask about design constraints or offer suggestions, you are either immediately shut down by the corporate cucked creative director, or publicly gaslit by the development team. The development team is intensely manipulative and grossly incompetent. Have a question about a manufacturing process? Too bad, your question will go unanswered. Have a good idea? Too bad, it costs too much. Want to know what things cost so you can better the designs? Too bad, they will not provide it. Have a good idea and want to pitch it? You should not waste time on this.. It goes on and on. The development team is a murky Black-hole of spite and if you try to ask clarifying questions necessary for your job, they will lash out and do everything in their power to make you feel bad until you shut up. It is rediculous. A development team should never be in charge of a creative team. This company does not understand or intend to seek out good product design. They are constantly looking for ways to cheapen products, reduce timelines, cut corners, and then use the creative team as a punching bag when things go poorly. Seriously no one should work here. The pay is bad. There is no respect. You will never have time to create, everything must be done ASAP. You will be gaslit. You will not get your pto hours. The Healthcare package is baseline. Your director will be unclear. Your director will not stand up for you. You're gonna have a bad time.

Pros

Good people. But sadly most have left.

Cons

A lot of cons. Way to many to go on with. Over all kidrobot can be a great company but not under Neca and the owner of it. The owner is slowly pulling this company down. The owner is very cheep and doesn't know anything about toys. Bad ideas come from him and they are laughable. The work life balance is awful and project are always a mess. No direction and no goals in mind as a company. Recently most of all staff was laid off trying to keep the company going. Before that people were leaving left and right because it was so bad. I used to know 25 plus people and now I know 3.
