Pros

Lightyear got recommended by a friend of mine who worked there in a software team. The application process went fairly well. It was clear what they expected of me during each part of the process. The process was quite lengthy, but it turned out alright. The lengthy process was worth it: during my onboarding sessions at the office I felt right at home. It's a company that is constantly changing because it's very young. This means they expect you to be flexible and responsible. In the end, you are the domain expert, and so they expect you to tell why some approach might or might not work. The company generally has a lot of young employees, which means it's always very lively in the office. There is no rigid structure, which is a fortunate thing for me. This approach does not fit everyone, but it definitely fits me. They are also very flexible with your hours. As long as you get done what you promised, there is no need to look at how many hours you spent on it.

Cons

Flexibility also means that you'll need to a sense of responsibility. Lightyear should be aware that when they hire new people, they ought to be ready to solve problems on their own. However, if they are stuck, they should reach out to others on their own accord. At the time of my application process, Lightyear was hiring quite a lot of people. After I was hired they were still quite desperate for new people. It sometimes feels like they don't always know which skills they are looking for, resulting in hiring talent that was needed a month ago. On a financial note: they expect you to make your own decisions and be flexible in the time that you work. However, they don't pay overtime. That's probably a conscious decision, but perhaps it will not reward those who put in additional effort.
