First of all, thanks for your feedback. It’s hard to read a review like this, as we appreciate our colleagues very much, wish them a happier time working at Macaw and like to keep them as an ambassador long after they leave. It sounds like we failed you in that respect and I’m truly sorry for that.
The past year we’ve put extra effort in communicating our company vision and how we are aiming to fulfil this in the years to come on a Macaw as well as department level, after the feedback we got from our colleagues in the Great Place To Work survey that we could do better here. And we have to admit, we’re not flawless. We make mistakes too. You’re not the only one who disliked the “webinar style” of our mid-year update, and we learned from that feedback.
Macaw is growing and Macaw Data Analytics is one of our divisions that is indeed growing very fast. We’re proud of that and we (like you) realize that it’s not just about the numbers. Our focus is on keeping the team culture optimal and the quality of services continuously increasing. With the fast growth we’ve taken into account the we will have some periods of “overcapacity” and we try to turn that into our advantage by using that time as effectively (training, research, preparing for upcoming projects, etc.) as we can. Overall we feel we manage to get everyone assigned to fitting clients and projects pretty well . We see that reflected in the results of independent research by Great Place to Work, in which 270 Macaw colleagues rate Macaw as a Great Place to Work.
As our Data Practice is not just focusing on “Advanced Analytics” but also includes (amongst others) “Power BI for the Enterprise”, it is certainly true that a large portion of our workload is and will remain to be in the Business Intelligence, e.g. reporting and dashboarding space. We expect that both the Business Intelligence line of work, as well as the workloads for Advanced Analytics, Data Science and Ai will continue to grow and prove of value both to our customers as to our team.
It hurts to see that your experience with Macaw is not at the level we aspire for our colleagues and that you haven’t enjoyed some of the basics within our company culture; transparency, opportunities to develop and the informal environment in which you can walk up to any of your colleagues to ask any question, critical as it may be, even if that colleague seems to be in an Ivory Tower.
If you ever feel the need to share your experience in more detail with me personally, I would gladly accept that opportunity to earn from you over a nice cup of coffee. So you’re invited! And you can pick the location, in my tower or at the coffee bar. I’m fine with both.
