Marquee appears to be facing significant challenges stemming from what appears to be a misguided attempt to emulate the atmosphere dramatized in “The Wolf of Wall Street''/ Frat Boy mentality to cultivate a “fun” and “cool” atmosphere. Unfortunately, this attempt seems to be an utter failure, resulting in a fraternity-like atmosphere which only serves to keep its employees in a suspended state of adolescence, stifling professional growth and perpetuating a sense of immaturity.
Additionally, the lack of respect for employees' work/life balance, an apparent penchant for rewarding laziness and apathy, and “promoting” individuals without pay increases are critical issues. The rowdy culture, initially marketed as a strength, seems designed to attract inexperienced individuals, concealing red flags. The company to learn to enforce rules consistently, set better hiring standards for its employees, and ensure fair distribution of responsibilities and compensation based on ability and reliability.
I know of at least two employees–whose names I will not mention–who were told they were given a promotion. One would assume this would be something to be excited about as a promotions, generally comes with a pay raise. However, each of these individuals expressed resentment toward Marquee, because their “promotions” only consisted of having their titles changed while having their workloads increase.
Furthermore, the there is an apparent imbalance in workload distribution within the company. Making the Marketing, Operations, and Compliance employees consistently stay late to assist the inept Sales employees, without even so much as recognizing their efforts or acknowledging the challenges they face in cleaning up after sales-related issues, creates a glaring sense of unfairness and an ever-declining sense of workplace morale. Marquee needs to ensure that contributions from all departments, not just Sales, are recognized, rewarded, compensated, and publicly acknowledged to promote a culture of true appreciation and true collaboration.
The lack of professionalism at this company is not only confined to Marquee younger employees, the owner seems hell-bent on being as obnoxious as humanly possible. I was constantly flabbergasted at just how much this individual was impressed by the sound of his own voice. He would come into the office, yell like a child at the top of his lungs, and crank the music up to deafening volumes, and make jokes about the 5 rounds of layoffs from that year (Yes 5).
It was clear that in his mind, he was being exciting and promoting an aggressive “hustle” sales culture. Unfortunately, he seemed oblivious to the fact that it made potential customers hang up the phone out of annoyance at the fact that they couldn’t hear the voices of the sales or operations teams working on their policies.
As it stands, Marquee seems to be on a collision course with the Department of Insurance as ethical problems such as insurance fraud on a few occasions seems to be the trend.
In fact, one of Marquee’s top salesmen committed it, they named him employee of the year.
They would constantly preach things like “we’re a family” and “we couldn’t do it without you” while laying off a quarter of employees every two to three months creates an atmosphere of uncertainty among remaining employees, eroding confidence in leadership and contributing to burnout as individuals strive to secure their positions.
I can say with the utmost assurance that the job insecurity prompts a majority of employees to actively seek more stable opportunities elsewhere. One would think that having a turnover rate over 50 percent would make the owner open his eyes.
The company's attempts to portray itself as a "family" manages to come across as tone-deaf.
Marquee is truly the trailer park of Insurance Agencies. Before you consider working here, please think about your mental health and your work life balance. There are other options, just be patient.
